IMDB rating: 7.10

Plot: Catherine The Great had been portrayed by Mae West, Elizabeth Bergner, Marlene Dietrich, and Pola Negri. She lived to be 67 years old. Amazing, if we are to believe her amorous ways. Lubitsch was to have directed this, but he became ill and the reins were handed to Preminger, with Ernst looking over his shoulder and making sure that Otto’s customary heavy hand was somewhat lightened. The ancient Biro/Lengyel play “Czarina,” which had been used as the basis for other movies about the Russian queen, was adapted this time by Mayer and Frank, veteran screenwriters who knew what they were doing. To Bankhead’s St. Petersburg castle comes Eythe, a young cavalry officer who has ridden for days to tell her of a coup planned by two generals. Eythe admits that he has plenty of energy left despite the travel, so Bankhead requests that he return later that night for a “private interview.” Eythe is handsome, albeit a bit sappy, but he must have some ability in the lovemaking department, because his rise to the rank of general is rapid. Eythe is soon in love with Baxter, a virginal woman who is a lady in waiting. Bankhead falls hard for Eythe, and, when she learns that he is affianced to Baxter, the young woman is sent away. Eythe is heartbroken but still owes allegiance to his queen, so he helps overcome the plot to dethrone her. Bankhead is so happy at what he’s done, she allows Eythe and Baxter to reunite while she finds new thrills in the arms of Price, the French ambassador. With all of the sleeping around Bankhead does, it’s a wonder any state business ever got done in the years when Catherine was Great. A few laughs, but Bankhead chews up the scenery and the pacing is off a beat. Lubitsch had filmed this as FORBIDDEN PARADISE in 1924.

how does my report sound?
Cleopatra VII

Cleopatra was born in 69 BC in Alexandria, Egypt. Her mother was believed to be Cleopatra V and her father was Ptolemy XII. She had two brothers and three sisters. Berenice IV and Cleopatra VI were her two older siblings, and her three younger siblings were Arsinoe IV, Ptolemy XIII and Ptolemy XIV.
Cleopatra was 18 when she became the queen of Egypt after both her 2 older sisters were murdered. But to become queen Cleopatra was forced to have a consort throughout her reign. She was married to her younger brother Ptolemy XIII when he was twelve. Regardless of the Ptolemaic insistence that the male presence be first among co-rulers, she excluded Ptolemy from most things. By 46 BC a group of men led by Theodotus, Pothinus and, Achillas, overthrew her in favor of her younger brother, because he was easier to influence. At that time Cleopatra is thought to have fled to Thebaid.
While Cleopatra was gone Egypt was suffering from bad harvests because of a drought which stopped the much needed Nile flooding.
In 48 BC Caesar arrived in Alexandria. Ptolemy XIII was gone to Pelusium and Caesar placed himself in the royal palace and started giving out orders. Caesar brought with him around 4,000 military men as a badge of authority and everyone knew his intentions. Because of that there were riots in Alexandria. The eunuch, Pothinus, brought Ptolemy back to Alexandria.
At this point, Cleopatra decided she was not being left out of any deals that were going to be made. In order to get into the palace she had herself smuggled in rolled in a carpet and delivered to Caesar. Cleopatra and Caesar became lovers overnight and Ptolemy realized this right away. Ptolemy felt very betrayed and tried to get an angry mob aginst them. He was soon captured by Caesar’s guards and brought back to the palace. It is thought that Caesar had planned to make Cleopatra the next ruler of Alexandria.
The Alexandrian War was started when Pothinus called for Ptolemy XIII’s soldiers in November and surrounded Caesar in Alexandria with twenty thousand men. Cleopatra’s sister, Arsinoe, escaped from the palace and ran to Achillas. She was announced queen by the Macedonian mob and the army. During the fighting, Caesar executed Pothinus, and Ptolemy XIII drowned in the Nile while he was trying to escape.
With Ptolemy XIII out of the way Cleopatra was now the sole ruler of Egypt. She now had to marry her younger brother Ptolemy XIV, who was eleven years old. A very short time later Cleopatra and Caesar had a son Caesarion who was born on June 23, 47 BC.
In 46 BC, Caesar returned to Rome and recieved many awards. Celebrations lasted from September to October and he brought Cleopatra over along with Caesarion. The relationship between Cleopatra and Caesar was obvious for the Roman people and it was a scandal, because Caesar was already married to Calpurnia Pisonis. The conservative Republicans were very offended when he established Cleopatra in his home. She upset a lot of people. But Caesar openly claimed Caesarion as his son. Many were upset that he was planning to marry Cleopatra even though there were laws against marriages to foreigners.
Cleopatra was in Rome when Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC. She returned with her relatives to Egypt. Ptolemy XIV died, said to be poisoned by Cleopatra. She then made Caesarion her co-regent and successor.

if anyone has any pointers for me, or if you think i should change anything i am all ears…or eyes”)

IMDB rating: 6.30

Plot: An ex-con returns to his rural Ontario roots and outwits a corrupt and wealthy thoroughbred owner trying to take over a slew of local farms. Ray Dokes, a charming ex-ballplayer, returns from jail to discover the rural landscape of his childhood transformed by urban development. A film noir reminiscent of the stories of Elmore Leonard, ALL HAT is adapted from the novel by Brad Smith; Smith also penned the screenplay. Determined to stay out of trouble, Ray heads to the farm of his old friend Pete Culpepper, a crusty Texas cowboy who trains losing racehorses and whose debts are growing faster than his corn. Sonny Stanton, gambling addict and spoiled heir to a thoroughbred dynasty, is in the process of buying up an entire concession of farmland to build a casino and golfing resort, and the only one brave enough to stand in the way of Sonny is Etta Parr, Ray’s old flame, who might be willing to forgive Ray if it wasn’t for her pride and common sense. The situation is a minefield, one Ray is determined to avoid. He hooks up with Chrissie, a sexy, sassy and talented jockey and steers clear of Sonny. But when a ten-million-dollar thoroughbred goes missing from the Stanton Stables, Sonny pushes things too far and forces the sale of the community’s remaining farms. Ray reacts by coming up with a plan to stop Sonny in his tracks and right a few wrongs in the process. The scheme is unlikely and audacious; the players are as unpredictable as nitroglycerin. One false move and Ray will land back in jail. And the smart money is against him.

IMDB rating: 4.90

Plot: A digital 3D presentation that wows viewers with striking 3D effects, Fly Me to the Moon is a retelling of the 1969 Apollo 11 landing on the moon from the perspective of three young flies that allegedly hitched a ride on the historic flight. Nat, IQ, and Scooter live by the credo “If it’s not an adventure, it’s not worth doing,” so when the three flies get a chance to sneak aboard the space shuttle for a ride to the moon, all systems are definitely go. While Grandpa McFly and Nat’s young maggot siblings applaud the boys’ adventuresome spirits, their mothers stereotypically swoon and fret over their safety. The flies encounter several unanticipated twists including the trip’s week-long duration, a short in the ship’s circuitry, a Russian fly plot to sabotage their mission, and their mid-flight imprisonment in a test tube. Nonetheless, the flies manage to enjoy the experience of weightlessness with an in-space ballet interpretation of “Blue Danube” as well as an orange juice feeding frenzy. Fly Me to the Moon will likely spark new interest in space exploration and the United States’ walk on the moon, especially in today’s children, and the filmmakers made a concerted effort to present fairly accurate historical details consistent with NASA’s notes on the historic flight. There’s even an afterword from real astronaut Buzz Aldrin in which he stresses the impossibility of the existence of flies or other contaminants aboard the historic space shuttle. Fly Me to the Moon is fun entertainment for the whole family as well as an eye-catching display of digital 3D technology. (Ages 4 and older)

Plot: A young zombie named Otto appears on a remote highway. He has no idea where he came from or where he is going. After hitching a ride to Berlin and nesting in an abandoned amusement park, he begins to explore the city. Soon he is discovered by underground filmmaker Medea Yarn, who begins to make a documentary about him with the support of her girlfriend, Hella Bent, and her brother Adolf, who operates the camera. Meanwhile, Medea is trying to finish “Up with Dead People,” the epic political-porno-zombie movie that she has been working on for years. She convinces its star, Fritz Fritze, to allow the vulnerable Otto to stay in his guest bedroom. When Otto discovers that there is a wallet in his back pocket that contains information about his past, before he was dead, he begins to remember a few details, including memories of his ex-boyfriend, Rudolf. He arranges to meet him at the schoolyard where they met, with devastating results.

im really confused about this girl. can anyone help me out?
ok, this is gonna be long, but if you can help me, thank you so much.
ok theres this girl (sam) that i think i like. we became friends through my best friend (max). we’ve hung out a bit and texted often and made plans to do stuff. so i was starting to think that she liked me back until max started getting involved in all our plans. max and sam knew each other for years before i met her. but now max and sam are always hanging out together, everywhere they go together, and i guess have long talks and stuff. so i asked sams best friend tarah (shes also my close close friend, like a sister) if sam liked max and she said no and laughed. but max and sam still continued to hang out together everywhere they go. sam was still the same with me thou, still texting and us hanging out. but the last couple days shes been wierd like when im textin her she seems less enthuased so i stopped texting her. and today she like completly ignored me. does she not like me anymore? is she mad at me? idk im really confused. and anyone says to talk to her, its not that easy cause i dont wanna talk about it wt anyone of my friends or anything thats why im talking on the internet. anyone have any opinions? thanks for reading.

Its ok. Just breath for a second before i continue. Did you breath? Ok good now. She isn’t mad at you unless you have given her a reason to be, which by what you’ve told us sounds like you haven’t. What i think is going on that you guys have talked so much that she might be getting bored. BREATH AGAIN! Ok that isn’t a bad thing. This just means you need to step back and not talk for a couple days. I know it sounds hard so…. BREATH! ok She will realize after a couple days that she misses talking to you. When you guys start talking again it’ll be cool! So just hang tight

			~{[(*Maggie*)]}~ | Feb 01, 2010

Well if shes hanging out with Max all the time, thats probably because they are such good friends. If her best friend said that she doesnt like him, than she mostly doesnt. If she was mean to you today, that could have been because she was having a bad day. Dont take it personally, girls emotions are always up and down. If she is still rude to you later on, than that probably means that she isnt really interested in you anymore. I would just give her some room and see what happens. If she is still into you, than she will make an attempt to show you that. If not, move on.
Rachel (: | Feb 01, 2010

she’s probably just moody or shes having trouble deciding who she likes you or your mate?
well your gona have to talk to her some time to sort it out??
Flossy | Feb 01, 2010

normally when i like a guy i dont really tell my friends first i normally keep it to my self at first so maybe she does or doesnt sometimes us girls can be pretty unsure about what we actually want, if you havent told her you like her tell her and see where things go from there. hope this helps.

Does EDUCATION really matters when getting married?
i’m 26 yrs old & my bf is 28 yrs old. I’m studying for a medical degree(MD) now & he just studied till junior high school (study till 15 yrs old). We already 3 years of being gf & bf. He’s a nice guy, always care bout me & down to earth. We get along well & there’s no major problem between us now. My parents at 1st disagree with our relationship, but now reconsidering again since i love him so much. They keep warning me that there will surely be problems in understandings in future, because the same situations happened to them,my mum is higher educated than my dad & they quarrel a lot. Sometimes,it really freaks me out. When i said to them that we really can get along, my dad says it’s just because we are staying far (long-distance relationship) & haven’t face the real problems yet. What u think? Any experiences?or ur frens experiences? kindly share ur opinion.thank u.
It is not about the education it is about the person. I’ve dated men with Master Degrees who are jerks and others with no post education who were sweethearts. The main thing is that your boyfriend is hard working and honest. Doesn’t matter how much money he brings back home if he’s proud of what he does for living and loves it he will be a nice and interesting man to be around.

If your boyfriend doesn’t work and just goes from job to job and has not stability, that’s a different story.

ADD: Yes education is important. It’s important for YOU to get yourself an education.
Jane Marple | Mar 19, 2010

.People are more often drawn to those with similar education backgrounds, goals, ambitions….but not always. Only you and he can decide if this disparity will be an issue or not. Are you okay with it? Will you ever think less of him because you will have a college education and be a doctor and he didn’t get through high school? Will he feel bad about himself because he didn’t finish his education and you went on to get a degree and more?

His options for jobs will be limited so how much you do expect him to contribute to the household finances? That’s something else to think about. If you two are dating long distance it could be that the reality of your relationship isn’t there because you don’t know each other as well as you should.

The upside is, that divorce exists for a reason and if you do choose to marry and find it wasn’t the best choice, you can always go your separate ways. For me personally, I’d prefer someone with a college education. I’m not sure how much I’d have in common with a junior high drop out.

Good luck!
I think its amazing that someone who doesn’t speak English as their first language was able to move to a new country and not only develop an almost functional English ability but get into Med School!

If you can overcome that you can overcome a long distance relationship. You father is half right, you haven’t fully experienced what its like to be in a real relationship with your boyfriend. Make him move to you and see how it goes, it might work out. Stay in school, it doesn’t matter to a relationship but I imagine it matters to you.
Mark D | Mar 19, 2010

In the greater scheme of things, education usually means a better paying job. That can often eliminate one stress point in a marriage (money issues). As to the particulars of a woman being higher educated than a man and having a better job…it CAN be a problem at times. Why? Because men crave respect & admiration which is hard to achieve while your wife shows you up. In other words, it can be emasulating.

Imagine going to a party at your Hospital (you now being a Dr.) and some other Dr. asks your husband "So, what do you do?" Ya, it takes a real strong guy NOT to feel belittled & less than a man in this position (and when that happens, the guy tries to become controlling etc. to prove HE is the "man").
Toxicpanduh #2 | Mar 19, 2010

				No, but size matters.
johnbenren@yahoo.com | Mar 19, 2010

Education DOES matter. Regardless how much you love each other now, your bf will eventually feel inferior as compared to you because he is less educated, and hence, will be less successful. You will also eventually feel that he is not good enough for you. This will impair your relationship at the end of the day.

I have experienced that before (I am a graduate and my ex husband is only junior school), so did many of the women I know. That is why we divorced our husbands. Now I am engaged to a very well-educated man who is very successful, smart and rich. We are both very happy together and I never regret my decision leaving my not good enough ex-husband (who also has many undesirable characteristics as well).

An advice to every woman – Always marry a man of at least equal status as you, if not more. NEVER EVER marry a man who is beneath you.

Marrying on equal standing are more likely to last much longer and happier.
J L | Mar 19, 2010

Depends on the people involved in the relationship. Because there are some couples where one party has more education and understand things on one level. While their partner is more street smart and have skills in another way and understand things a bit differently. But between the two of them they have enough experiences to work things out in their relationship without education really being a major hang up for them. But with other couples, education could be a real obstacle if neither party values street smarts or the other person’s life experiences all that much and they would not share a common ground. If that happens that also speaks of their values too. So I think when you do spend time with your guy face to face, find out what his values are and see if they match with what you are after. If not then you have a bigger issue than just education that could end your relationship.
Cursed_Romantic | Mar 19, 2010

The only time education matters is when one person thinks that they are better than the other because of it and treat them that way.
kim h | Mar 19, 2010

They are those with higher education who wont care about you and treat you right. This guy cares about you and he is down to earth. Its not about education its about how you get along.some guys with zero education behave better than those with higher education. And just that you know you dont have to be like your parents because it happend to them.As long as your bf is doing what he can to bring bread at home then you are fine. There is a saying that says better eat bread and water with love than eat honey without love ok i just made it up but consider that.
Tampa | Mar 19, 2010

I have a funny feeling that your "bf" is the one going to med school, and you’re the one who didn’t finish Junior high school
Back 2 normal | Mar 19, 2010

It doesn’t matter to me. And if it doesn’t matter to you, then who cares? As long as you two are happy, that’s all that matters. My husband took 5 years to graduate from high school, I went to college. It doesn’t matter at all. If I say something he doesn’t understand, then I simply explain it to him and we move on. Just because he didn’t learn something, doesn’t mean he is stupid. Stupid is being incapable of learning. I’ve taught him things and he has taught me things. It’s not like you two are going to break up because you want to argue with him about rocket science and he doesn’t understand it. For the most part, you will talk about things you both understand. Your parent’s most likely have communication issues and they are just blaming it on their differing education levels instead of dealing with the real problem.
The story hits the press, and Gulliver and Treacle, now the most reviled men in Britain, face court martial. The army claims the two are ‘rotten apples’ acting alone. Guilt-ridden and abandoned, the pressure is too much for a traumatized Treacle. Gulliver, however, is determined to remain loyal to ‘his army’. Only when he is truly alone does he have to decide if he must keep his secrets or explosively have his day in court, and tell the truth about the events of that fateful night.

Can someone help me edit my Beowulf, The Seafarer, and The wanderer essay for English?
The Anglo-Saxon epics, Beowulf, The Wanderer, and The Seafarer show the aspects of Anglo-Saxon life, christian influences, and elegiac mood. Daily life for Anglo-Saxons consisted of many activities including listening to bards and Scopes, working to get money, and worshiping god, Anglo-Saxon’s had a major part in starting christianity as we know it today, which is why most of their poems and stories have christian influences in them. "Beowulf", "The Wanderer" and "The Seafarer" are all elegies meaning they show elegiac mood at one point in their story line.
Anglo-Saxons set the foundations on which the English nation developing, and in spite of their continual internal wars they built on their foundations and developed a highly regarded civilization. In Beowulf, the writer depicted many aspects of Anglo-Saxon lifestyle especially the importance of weapons. "Then he saw the mighty water witch and swung his sword, his ring-marked blade, straight at her head; the Iron sang a fierce song." [ Beowulf lines 594-599] this quote shows that the Anglo-Saxons who wrote Beowulf value swords and weapons because they state the Iron sung which implies that the sword was so great that when it was swung it sang. The Seafarer also shows Anglo- Saxon life because the speaker states, " The passion of the cities, swelled proud with wine and no taste of misfortune." [ The Seafarer lines 28-29] this shows the social aspects of Anglo-Saxon life and how they would drink and be happy until it was a time of war, meaning they were a very social group of people. "The Wanderer" is another Anglo-Saxon piece that depicts aspects of daily lives and here is an example of how God is important to them," Oft to the wanderer, weary of exile, Cometh god’s pity, compassionate love, though woefully toiling on wintry seas," [The Wanderer lines 1-3]. Through these three epic stories the Anglo-Saxons show that they value God and religion, socializing, and weapons. Beowulf, The Seafarer, and The wanderer show aspects of Anglo-Saxon life through their story lines.

The three Anglo-Saxon epics Beowulf, The Seafarer, and The Wanderer depict Christianity and its influences in their lives. Beowulf shows christian influences by the use of Cain, the first murderer, and the fact that Grendel couldn’t touch the king’s throne because it was protected by God. Another way christianity is shown in Beowulf is when Burton Raffel writes," The Monster’s scorn of men is so great that he needs no weapons and fears none. Nor will I my lord Higlac…my hands alone shall fight for me, struggle for life against the monster, God must decide who will be given to death’s cold grip." [Beowulf lines 163-175] . The Seafarer shows influences of Christianity when Raffel writes, " But there isn’t a man on earth so proud, so born to greatness, so bold. with his youth, grown so brave, or so graced by God." [The Seafarer lines 39-41]. The Wanderer shows christian influences because the speaker has hope that if he follows christian rules he will be able…

to get out of exile. These three poems show that God was very important to the Anglo-Saxon people and that they would do everything they could to be viewed as Christian and being christian meant they were important.
Beowulf, The seafarer, and The Wanderer all have examples of elegiac mood. Beowulf shows elegiac mood when he says

" You’re the last of all our far-flung family. Fate has swept our race away, taken warriors in their strength and led them to the death that was waiting, And now i follow them." [Beowulf lines 821-824]
That quote shows that Beowulf is saying to Wiglaf that he is the last kind of their people and after he is gone everything will be different. Elegiac mood is also used in the Seafarer when Raffel writes, " The Days are gone when the Kingdoms of earth flourished in Glory; Now there are no rulers, no emperors, no givers of fold, as once there were, when wonderful things were worked among them and they lived in lordly magnificence." [The Seafarer lines 80-85]

The Wanderer also shows elegiac mood when the writes states," wretchedness fills the realm of earth, and fate decrees transform the world. here wealth is fleeting, friends are fleeting, man is fleeting, maid is fleeting; All the foundation of earth Shall Fail!" [The Wanderer lines 98-102] The Anglo-Saxons clearly had many ways to show that things were changing and the way they used most was elegiac mood.

The Three epics Beowulf, The seafarer, and The Wanderer show how Anglo-Saxons lived, Christian influences in their lives, and elegiac mood.
